When the King
of Persia was directed by God to let the Jewish people return to
their land, it was written,
"And all they that were about them strengthened their hands
with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts,
and with precious things, beside all that was willingly offered"
(Ezra 1:6).
Today, we see
once again an ingathering of the Jewish people to the land of Israel
and we believe that Christians now have a golden opportunity to
assist by offering their valuable gifts and services. In Romans
15:27, it states "for if the Gentiles have been made partakers
of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them
in carnal things."
This
project meets a goal of building a relationship between Christians
and Jews here in Israel. Christ Jesus taught us to meet the physical
and spiritual needs of His chosen people. This is especially important
in Israel as confirmed in I Corinthians 1:22, "For the Jews
require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom." The Jewish
mentality expects action, not just words, to express love. Not only
do the Jewish people seek a sign to see the power of God's love
but they want a tangible sign to see the love expressed by Christians
who care. This is a practical way for us to show the love of God.
Because high
inflation has encumbered Israel's limited budget, many basic needs
go unattended. This is not because of a lack of desire of the people,
only a lack of means. Therefore, the needs are great for new immigrants
from Ethiopia, the former Soviet Union, Yemen and other locations
around the world from which Jews are returning to Israel.
Project Nehemiah
("Nehemiah" means "comfort" in
the Hebrew language) provides many different forms of help to Israel.
We provide tangible gifts and direct assistance, such as our Welcome
Kitchen Baskets, blankets, food parcels and other such needful items.
Through our Project Nehemiah Distribution Center in Rishon Letzion,
gifts are given throughout Israel directly to new immigrants and
to others of Israel's needy by our Project Nehemiah staff.
Won't you please
browse through our Project Nehemiah web site and find out more about
how you can help? There are many ways you can help today, through
donations and by volunteering for service. Thank you so much and
may God bless and richly reward you for your help to His chosen
people!
